Natural Herbal Cough Drops Recipe

Mullein, Yarrow leaves and flowers, Sage

Earth Blessings Everyone!

We've been pretty lucky this cold season and no one has gotten sick almost alllll winter. ALMOST. This past week I've given both my kids my cold. Nothing too serious, but it comes with a pretty gross cough . So I decided it was a good time to put my dried herbs from last season to use. We made herbal cough drops with only a few ingredients!!

Ingredients: *Mullein, Sage, Cinnamon, Yarrow leaves and flowers. (There are so many other herbs you could use as well, but this is what I had on hand.)

*Water

*Honey

*Organic Coconut Sugar (you do not need to use coconut sugar, any white or raw sugar is fine)

*Powdered Sugar (or cornstarch to coat)

1. Infuse herbs in about 2 cups of water. (I don't measure, I legit put a bunch of the herbs in a pot and poured enough water to cover it)

2. Simmer the herbs and water infusion on medium heat for about 25min and then strain out the herbs.

3. Mix 1/2 cup herbal infusion 3/4 cup of honey 3/4 cup of alternative sugar (I used coconut sugar) the sugar is what will help keep the drops hard.

4. With a candy thermometer heat everything on med- low heat until it reaches 300degrees F. Keep the heat on the lower side as to keep your drops from burning.

(This step takes a little bit, be patient and remember to stir throughout)

5. Once you've reach 300degrees, take it off the heat and stir until it settles, not too long though, they will start to harden.

6. Pour in molds, or if you don't have any, make little drops on a baking mat or parchment paper.

7. Once they've hardened, coat them with powdered sugar. You can use crushed herbs, arrowroot, or corn starch to stay away from sugar, but these aren't as sweet as you might think, so I coated them with powdered sugar.

And presto! Good for you herbal cough drops. My daughter has already snatched 3 of these while trying to get them into their tin.

**You will have about 1 1/2 cups left of your infusion. Perfect already made tea, add some honey and lemon and you have a great remedy for a cough or sore throat!!**

**I just wanted to add, if you have Oregano, add that into anything your making for colds or respiratory infections. Oregano has a ton of antioxidants and super potent antibacterial properties. I didn't have any on hand that was fresh enough ( old spice cabinet oregano just won't cut it) but will definitely be going in my next batch!!**

How did yours turn out?!
